Preceding the performance of And then, we’ll keep going, Neva Guido and Nicole Bradbury engaged in a daily documentation and correspondence practice with one another. This practice continued despite their movements throughout the world, which led them to places thousands of miles apart, sometimes without internet or phone service. Through this, Nicole and Neva were able to engage in a queer space of being with each other that was not dependent on physical closeness. And then we’ll keep going is a direct response and reflection of this study on “being with each other”.
Nicole on the work: “I am interested in closeness, and what that means proximally, physically, metaphysically. I am interested in deconstruction of structure, and how to reshape and fit all of the pieces back together in a new way. Whatever new means. I’m concerned with form, and vagueness in form. And if attuning towards a form so much can then reshape it, or even blur it. How, then, does this blurring have the propensity to stage an act of queer public romance?”

A triptych film, meant to be played simultaneously on 3 laptop screens, researching the relationality between queer desire and lack. What is the invisible choreography, or reach, that occurs between the desired and the desirer? How can these traces become tangible? Filmed, edited, and performed by Nicole Bradbury. An investigation on lack through the lens of JANE. A character Nicole developed, JANE works in a convenience store, is not allowed to leave, yet falls in love with every person who walks in. Her days are full of longing.

Inside of Lauren Bakst’s project “Other Monuments”, Nicole created a performative monument in response to Emmanuel Frémiet’s monuments of Joan of Arc in Philadelphia and Paris. The work was presented twice, once in Philadelphia and once in Paris, utilizing tin foil as an allegory to armor and imprinting. Questions of female representation in monuments arose in the form of a speech, whilst Nicole engaged in movement scores that casted her body into the tin foil.
